On Sunday 8th October we will be marking the 157th anniversary of the church. We are looking forward to welcoming Malcolm Firth as our visiting preacher for both services at 10.30am and 6pm.
Malcolm and Ruth both grew up in Christian homes and came to faith at an early age. They met at University in Aberystwyth, where the Lord called them both to cross-cultural mission. They studied at Union in South Wales and worked with Whittlesey Baptist Church before being sent to Latvia in 1996.
After working with a Russian-speaking Baptist church for several years, Malcolm became co-pastor of Riga International Church where they served until 2010. Since then they have started a church plant, now known as Grace International Baptist Church.
The church started in their flat, and drew in a number of refugees as well as international students, expats working in Latvia and some local people. This made for an interesting mix of languages, where there could be translation into as many as four languages in one service. Having outgrown their home, the church met in rented office space.
As well as pastoring the church, Malcolm was involved in the work of the Latvian Bible Centre, where he served on the board and taught some of the courses. He also taught church planters through the Baltic Church Planting Network. He also made occasional trips to Africa to train local leaders.
Since the beginning of 2023, Malcolm and Ruth have been working with Grangetown Baptist Church in Cardiff as international workers.
We look forward to having Malcolm and Ruth with us on Sunday. All are warmly invited to join with us as we mark this special occasion.
